Full Tilt
My studio has been busy lately—with everything from deeply personal memorial pieces and empowering commissions to children’s book illustrations. The work is varied, meaningful and occasionally a little chaotic. I’m grateful for all of it.
I’m still working out how to balance commissioned work with making space for my own creative expression. It’s a great challenge to have. The personal pieces beginning to emerge feel different—more instinctive, more honest and firmly rooted in the season I’m in. And there may be a reason they’re demanding space now… Something bigger is taking shape behind the scenes: my first solo exhibition! It’s too early to share more, but there’s definitely something stirring, so watch this space.
Outside the studio, life is no less full: mum-life, renovating our home and balancing one energetic puppy with one older, increasingly anxious dog. So naturally, I decided this was also the perfect time to rediscover rollerblading. Safe to say I’m completely hooked.
It takes me straight back to my teenage years—except now I’m speed skating, learning tricks and trying to keep up with my kids. It’s exhilarating, slightly ridiculous and the closest thing I can liken to flying.
Life is busy. Wildly busy. But right now, it feels full of movement, momentum and possibility.
Maybe that’s the reminder in all of this: creativity doesn’t always need a plan, a purpose or an outcome. Sometimes it’s simply following the thing that makes you feel most alive—picking up the pencil, putting on the rollerblades, or returning to a part of yourself you’d almost forgotten. Whatever that thing is for you, perhaps it’s time to give it some room.
